Mediators' understanding of neutrality in the
context of self represented parties
What is this project?
The study explores mediators' understanding of neutrality and fairness and how they inform the practice of mediation. The research will also investigate the challenges and opportunities of mediation when parties in mediation do not have legal representation. This study is part of a doctoral research project. Svetlana German is undertaking her PhD at UTS in the area of mediation. The research will be published in the researcher’s PhD thesis and may also be published or reported in conferences or in academic or professional articles in the field of alternative dispute resolution, mediation and civil procedure. |
How do I register my interest?
If you are a mediator in NSW and are willing to participate in a one hour interview we would love to hear from you! You can indicate you interest below. |
What is required from me? Are there risks to participation?
To participate in the research, you will participate in a 40-60 minute interview . All the interviews will be conducted by Svetlana German as part of her study. There are no significant risks to participation, care will be taken to remove identifying details relation to the data collected and the research will not permit the identification in the research outputs arising from the research. All data collected will be de-identified both at the time of collection and again at the time of publication |
Why participate?
The research will contribute to the development of clearer guidance for mediator practice on neutrality and intervention. It will also assist in the development of resources for parties undergoing the mediation process who are self-represented. |
